FAQs
WHERE DO THE SHOOTS TAKE PLACE?
I am based at Hawley Beach, just 20 mins south of Devonport and one hour north of Launceston. My usual shoots take place outside at some absolutely stunning locations around the Hawley Beach/Port Sorell/Shearwater area, with walks along the beach and through the native bushland.
WHAT TIMES DO THE SHOOTS TAKE PLACE?
For the most magical dreamy photos, outdoor sessions get the best results when they take place at golden hour/sunset or sunrise, (1-1.5hrs before the sun sets or after the sun rises). I shoot weekdays and weekends, just check the “Book a Session” page for live availability. That said, I do understand the importance of nap times and/or other commitments so can and will organise a shoot time accordingly! If you would like to discuss booking a shoot at an alternative time of day, please don't hesitate to get in touch through the contact form!
WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT ON THE DAY
We will meet at a pre-arranged location, usually one of Hawley’s stunning beaches with the iconic lichen covered rocks, or one of the idyllic local bush reserves. I will typically walk with my clients for a bit, get to the know them while we find an area with good lighting and get comfortable in each other’s company. This is also when I remind you that the shoot will not be staged or stressful, and to just enjoy the scenery with your family and loved ones! From this point, there is no set structure to the session. If you want to play hide and seek, go rock pooling, collect gum nuts, be my guest! I always aim to capture some pictures of the whole family together, which may involve gathering everyone in the same area (and bribing the dogs with treats!), but I do not ask or expect everyone to be looking at the camera at the same time and I promise not to keep you there long! Most likely you will find me running ahead of or behind you and getting into some weird and wonderful poses myself as I try and get the best angles and a variety of compositions.
WHAT ABOUT THE WEATHER?
Outdoor sessions go ahead in any kind of weather except the rain. If it looks like rain on the day, I'll be in touch to reschedule.
WHAT SHOULD I BRING?
Yourselves! And anything that will make you comfortable; It could be a frisbee, ball or skateboard to muck around with, for the kids a favourite toy, some dry (non messy!) snacks for the little ones never go astray! A towel to wipe down those wet, sandy feet at the end of the shoot!
WHAT IF I'M SICK/NEED TO RESCHEDULE?
If you or your family are sick on the day of the session, I will happily reschedule for another day. Likewise, if I’m unwell I will let you know and we will arrange another date. I will never turn up to a session poorly, especially if you have a newborn. There is no fee to reschedule your session.
WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?
If you're worried about this, rest assured, you're not alone! Don't fret, all you really need to remember is that you want to feel like the best you you can be, and that will look different for everyone. Casual or formal is entirely up to you, as long as you feel like yourself! Before my sessions I send out some guidelines that can help if you are feeling stuck.
I HATE HAVING MY PHOTO TAKEN, IS THIS REALLY FOR ME?
You are not alone! People often tell me they feel awkward in front of the camera and don’t like posing, which is why I am not about awkward poses or smiling for the camera. It is my aim for you to feel as relaxed and as natural as possible, to enjoy the beautiful scenery, take a stroll along the beach, muck around with the kids and simply be you! These are the absolute BEST moments captured through the lens. In short, if you enjoy spending time with your loved ones and don’t mind me joining you for an hour or so while you do what you do best, then YES, this is for you too!
